THE ANGKOR BULLETIN Siem Reap December , 2009 HIGHLIGHTS
1. Serving Prasadam to Guests
NEWS IN DETAILS 1.. SERVING PRASADAM TO GUESTS On different occasions, especially on Sundays, devotees get an opportunity to serve Krishna prasadam to guests. Daily the devotees are cooking for the Lord but on special occasions, either for festivals or Sunday Feasts, they prepare special preparations for the pleasure of the Lord and His new devotees. 2. COOKING CLASSES Our long-standing and dedicated Dhira Santa prabhu has recently introduced cooking classes to some of the local people interested to learn the art of Indian cooking. As can be seen by the photo, the students are taking notes as they watch and learn how to prepare vegetarian dishes.
3. HOLISTIC FARMING Guna Avatara prabhu continues with undaunted determination to introduce the natural, organic and holistic Vedic farming techniques he has learnt from India. He regularly visits the local farmers to teach them how to make natural compost for the soil, how to make beds in the garden, how to make jivamrta to add more vitality to the soil. In this way many local farmers are getting this wonderful opportunity to improve the natural farming techniques and thus appreciate the gifts of nature.
4. GARDENING Both Dhira Santa prabhu and Guna Avatara prabhu daily attend to the garden to grow their own vegetables. Although the plot of land they have is quite small, they are getting sufficient vegetables which saves them from having to purchase them from the market.
5. GUESTS FROM FOREIGN COUNTRIES The devotees receive some occasional guests from foreign countries who come to hear about the presence of devotees and the availability of Krishna prasadam. It is very difficult to find vegetarian food in Cambodia, what to speak of Krishna prasadam.
6. MAKING JIVAMRTA Guna Avatara prabhu teaches local farmers how to enhance their soil by making jivamrta, a mixture of cow dung, cow urine and jaggery or gur (hard brown sugar made from sugar cane or from palm fruit).
7. MAKING BIO-PESTICIDE Guna Avatara prabhu teaches the local farmers how to make simple bio-pesticide without the use of dangerous chemicals which destroy the soil and are also expensive. One can make such bio-pesticide by using cow urine and water, or by using the extract from Neem leaves mixed with water.
