KINGDOM OF CAMBODIA NATION - RELIGION - KING
Hrisikesa Masa Gaurabda 525 ( Aug-Sep 2011 )
Welcome to the Hrisikesa Masa Gaurabda 525 edition of the ANGKOR BULLETIN. This will serve as a supplement to our website www.bhakticambodia.com. Devotees serving in the Kingdom of Cambodia would like to provide various information to our viewers to solicit their interest and participation, however that may be. We plan to make available literatures in the local Khmer language both those of the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT) and those of the Varnasrama Book Trust (VBT). We are looking for interested persons from the Kingdom of Cambodia who can help in various activities, including translation and printing of literatures into Khmer. Hare Krishna. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dhira and Adhira There are two classes of men: dhira and adhira. Dhira means one who is not disturbed even though there is cause of disturbances. One may not be disturbed when there is no cause of disturbances. Just like we are not, now at the present moment, we are not afraid of death. But as soon as we find there is earthquake, and we are afraid of this building may fall down, the cause of disturbances, then we become very much disturbed—sometimes screaming. So one who is not disturbed, even there is cause of disturbance, he is called dhira. Dhiras tatra na muhyati. This is the statement of Bhagavad-gita. We have to become dhira from adhira. (SP lecture, Mayapur) Krishna consciousness movement is pleasing to both the dhira and the adhira. But this Krishna consciousness movement is so nice that adhira can be dhira. This is the profit of this movement. Krsnatkirtana-gana-nartana-parau premamrtambho-nidhi dhiradhira. Krsnakirtana-gana-nartana-parau premamrtambho-nidhi dhiradhira-jana-priyau. This Krishna consciousness movement is pleasing to both the classes of men, namely the dhira and the adhira. It is so nice. Dhiradhira-jana-priyau priya-karau nirmatsarau pujitau. This was introduced by Caitanya Mahaprabhu and followed by the six Gosvamis. Vande rupa-sanatanau raghu-yugau sri-jiva-gopalakau. (SP lecture, Mayapur) Dhira means those who are advanced in spiritual consciousness, Krishna consciousness , and adhira means those who are advancing in the process of sense gratification . So these two classes of men... Dhérädhira-jana-priyau. Krishna consciousness movement is so nice that we can please both classes of men, the dhiras and the adhiras. Become Dhira by Brahminical Culture
TRANSLATION As soon as irrevocable loving service is established in the heart, the effects of nature's modes of passion and ignorance, such as lust, desire and hankering, disappear from the heart. Then the devotee is established in goodness, and he becomes completely happy. SB 1.2.19 There are three gunas—sattva-guna, rajo-guna, tamo-guna. If you remain in the lower platforms, tamo-guna, rajo-guna... Tamo-guna, rajo-guna means, as I have already explained, greediness and lust, desires. That is tamo-guna, rajo-guna. Tato rajas-tamo-bhava kama-lobhadayas ca ye. What is that rajo-guna, tamo-gunaa? Now, kama, lusty desires, and greediness, not satisfied with the minimum necessities of life, want to increase more and more, more and more. That is called greediness. ... Ahara-nidra-bhaya-maithunam ca samanyam etat pashubhir naranam. Ahara means eating. Ahara, nidra, sleeping, and fearing, and sense enjoyment. These are required, but not for increasing but decreasing... The Vedic civilization teaches that "Be satisfied with the minimum necessities of life. ... They should be real brahmanas, samo damo. That is human civilization,... That is brahminical culture, which means samo damo titiksa. Titiksa means without something I may suffer. Suffer. So one should be practiced to suffer. Suffer, that is tapasya. Tapasa brahmacaryena [SB 6.1.13]. Tapasya begins from celibacy. We are practiced to sex life or sense gratification. Tapasya means first of all stop this. Tapasa brahmacaryena [SB 6.1.13]. This is practice. Adhira should be guided by the dhira. The understanding, that soul is different from the body, it is meant for the dhira, not for the adhira. Adhira means busy fool, and dhira means lazy intelligent. That is first-class man. They are doing everything very soberly. And the next class: busy intelligent. Intelligence should be used very soberly. And the third class: lazy fool-lazy, at the same time, fool. And the fourth class: busy fool. Busy fool is very dangerous. So all these people, they're busy. Even in this country, everywhere, all over the world, not this country or that country. They have discovered this horseless carriage—very busy. "Ons, ons," (imitates cars' noise) this way this way, this way. But actually, they are not intelligent . Busy fool. Therefore they are creating problems after problems . That's a fact. They are so busy, but because they are fools, therefore they are creating problems. SP , Hawaii But our, this movement is meant both for the dhira and adhira. Adhira. We can make them really human beings. Never mind he is dhira or adhira. It is so nice movement. Dhiradhira. Krsnakirtana-gana-nartana-parau premamrtambho-nidhi dhiradhira-jana-priyau. It is very pleasing both for the dhiras and adhiras. Why not? What we are doing? We invite people, "Please come here. Chant, dance, and take prasada." So both the dhiras and adhiras, they will be attracted. Dhiradhira priya. [break] You cannot make everyone dhira; that is not possible. There is necessity of adhira also. That is also... But it should be guided by the dhira. Then it will be all right. (SP, conversation ) “ at the present moment the whole world is full of rascals (Adhira). Now if they take to Krsna Consciousness, select amongst them, just like I am training you are brahmana by training. So one who is prepare to be trained as brahmana, and classify him in the brahmana. One is trained up as ksatriya, classify him, in this way you take the whole mass of people as sudra and rest, who is neither brahmana nor ksatriya nor vaisya, then he is sudra. That is all, very easy thing. This will be the happiness. When people will be peaceful, happy in their living condition that will bring happiness...” Daiva Varnasrama Dharma, life according to Regulative principles.
TRANSLATION Any person who desires the fruits of the four principles religiosity, economic development, sense gratification and, at the end, liberation, should engage himself in the devotional service of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, for worship of His lotus feet yields the fulfillment of all of these. SB 4.8.41
[Bg. 3.14]: "All living bodies subsist on food grains, which are produced from rains. Rains are produced by performance of yajïa {sacrifice}, and yajïa is born of prescribed duties."] Prabhupäda: That's it. Everything is cycle. If you execute your prescribed duties as a brahmana, as a ksatriya, as a vaishya, or as a sudra, as a brahmacari, as a grhastha, as a vanaprastha, or as a sannyasi... Divisions are there. Division must be there. Just like government. ...Just like in your body there are departments. This department, brain, head. Therefore it is called head, head office, head office. Why do you refer to the head office? It has come from this head. Why Godhead? The Supreme Godhead, the Supreme. Therefore we say, "Godhead. That is described in the Bhagavad-gita. [Bg. 7.7] Mattah parataram nanyat kincid asti dhananjaya: "There is no more superior person than Me." So the divisions required. The divisions required. So for these divisions, brähm aëa, kñatriya, vaiçya, çüdra... Without the divisions... So what is... Read the verse again. ... bhavanti bhutani. Annad. Anna means food grains. Either animal or man, they must eat sufficiently. Either you eat grass or you eat rice or wheat or oats, or..., something must be... So they are called anna. In Sanskrit language it is called anna. Anna means foodgrains. So annäd bhavanti bhütäni [Bg. 3.14]. Every living entity lives. So kamam, yes, what is that? Annad, annad bhavanti bhutani [Bg. 3.14]. Bhutani means embodied, those who have taken, accepted, the living entities. They live by eating anna, either animal or human being. You require anna. Produce foodgrains. Foodgrains or grass or anything, as the animals eat and man eat, you must produce. And that production is there on the ground, not your factory. ... parjanyad anna-sambhavah. Parjanya means if there is waterfall, rainfall, then you can produce anna. Parjanyad anna-sambhavah. One after another. You require foodgrains, and for producing foodgrains, you require sufficient rainfall. Parjanyad anna-sambhavah. ...Yajnad bhavati parjanyah [Bg. 3.14]. And the the rain supply be regular if you perform sacrifice. ... yajnah karma-samudbhavah. Yajna, karma. Karma means, according to the varnasrama, brahmana should work according to his own position. They will chant Vedic mantra. That is also one karma, activity. They must understand what is Vedas; they must explain. That is brahmana's business. And ksatriya's business, karma... This is called ksatram karma svabhava-jam. Brahma-karma svabhava-jam. Vaisya-karma svabhava-jam. Sudra-karma svabhava-jam. By nature, one has got a particular type of work. So yajnah karma-samudbhavah. ... karma-samudbhavah. If everyone is doing his duty nicely as a brahmana, as a ksatriya, as a vaishya or as a sudra, then no..., there is no question of that you are do... Everyone has to do his work according to his capacity. Just like in ordinary life also, we do not see that everyone is able to do everything. No. There are certain class of men. If you want some help for repairing your electric wiring, you must call for an electrician, not a carpenter. But when you want to repair a door, you require a carpenter. That is Vedic division. Garuda
Garuda another names:Taarksyasuta, son of Taarksya(Kashyapa Muni);Vainateya;Vinataa-suta, son of Vinaata(Suparnaa) His mother is Viinata, father is Taarksya. His sibling is Aruna(or Anuru), chariot driver of sun-god. Garuda antagonistic to serpents, Kadrusuta, Son of Kadru. Who Kadruu herself is his stepmother. His two wings are two division of Sama Veda called brhat and rathaantara. On Churning ocean of milk, Garuda also used to brought Mandara Mountain, which made of gold. Nagalaya was inhabited by serpents and that Kaliya was one of the chief serpents there. Being accustomed to eating snakes, Garuda used to come to this island and kill many serpents at will. Some of them he actually ate, but some were unnecessarily killed. The reptile society became so disturbed that their leader, Vasuki, appealed to Lord Brahmä for protection. Lord Brahma made an arrangement by which Garuda would not create a disturbance: on each half-moon day, the reptile community would offer a serpent to Garuda. The serpent was to be kept underneath a tree as a sacrificial offering to Garuda. Garuda was satisfied with this offering, and therefore he did not disturb any other serpents.
