NEWS IN DETAILS

1. CORPORATION WITH VARIOUS NGOs

This last month we visited one village with some members of HRND NGO. With Venerable Somet and two other monks, we went to a village in the District of Bakong, Province of Siem Reap. In that village we met with the Head of the Village along with some 50 local villagers. We spoke about home gardening program and encouraged them to cultivate their own land by planting vegetables using the organic system avoiding all types of chemical pesticides and chemical fertilizers. The response was very good.

We were also able to conduct a gardening class with the Peace Café NGO with some 8 students attending the class. One teacher from Harmony Garden NGO introduced some organic farming method for us. First, we shared some information about organic farm methods. After that, we practiced to prepare compos, Indigenes Micro Organism (IMO), and Mulch. IMO is one important thing we can do. It is easy to prepare. One simply has to place boiled rice inside a bamboo and keep the bamboo under the soil. After 9 days we can take and open. After that put that rice in bucket, mix with water and keep it with cover. We can use for making compos after 10 days. Also we can directly sprinkle it under the crops.

2.  MANUFACTURING UNIT BEGINS

2.1. Cow Urine Extract

Kisora Prabhu brought one cow medicine book from India. We can now do some experiments using this book. We learned to prepare cow urine extract for making Go-Ark. In the future we plan to make other cow medicine, and if possible we will distribute to Cambodian people.

2.2. Flower Extract

One Indian person by the name of Mr. Prema Narayana taught us to prepare this extract from flowers. And he said we can put on the incense and use for puja. We can now make out own incense and offer to the Deities.

3.2. Making Compost

Prabhu Kisora introduced one kind of compost. Using one tank we put in the following ingredients: water, cow dung, dry leaf, dry grass (cut in small pieces) and neem leaves. After one week we can use for fertilizer. Put under the crops and cover with soil.

4. VISIT KHMER FAMILY

    1. The Priem Family

Last time we met Mr. Priem’s family in Bayon Temple. They visited our asrama as well as our garden. They were very interested about our activities to worship Krsna and Vishnu because they also worship Vishnu and Rama in their house. When I first visited their house, I had given one cassette of Srila Prabhupada Bhajan and one Krsna picture. And one day Kisora Prabhu, Sumana prabhu and I, we visited them again. We told them to start chanting the maha Mantra and now they are changing Hare Krishna.

4.2. The Lon family

We visit this family regularly. And last week we visited them again. There we showed them how to make sugar palm and how to take some cow dung for our garden for their agriculture land.

5. ENGLISH CLASS

We provide free English class two times a day, morning from 9.30 to 10.30 and afternoon from 15.00 to 16.00. In the morning time we have three students, they are monks. In the afternoon four students attend the classes. To practice more English we watch Ramayana movie together, and then hold some conversation about that movie. In this program we can also learn the local Khmer language from the students. Next week we plan to start Spanish class with one student because prabhu Kisora knows Spanish language.

7. CELEBRATING FESTIVALS

We celebrated the two festivals, Lord Varaha’s Appearance Day and Lord Nityananda’s Appearance Day at night time 7 p.m. Four Cambodian youths came to join in this festival. The programs conducted were: arati, reading Bhagavad-gita, watching Ramayana and Mahabharata movie and a small feast. Everyone was happy with the program.
