WELCOME

Welcome to the June-July edition of THE ANGKOR BULLETIN. This will serve as a supplement to our website www.bhakticambodia.com. Devotees serving in the Kingdom of Cambodia would like to provide various information to our viewers to solicit their interest and participation, however that may be.
We plan to make available literatures in the local Khmer language both those of the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT) and those of the Varnasrama Book Trust (VBT).
We are looking for interested persons from the Kingdom of Cambodia who can help in various activities, including translation and printing of literatures into Khmer. Hare Krishna.

  1. MiniLibrary Established in Bhakti Yoga Ashrama

Mini Library

Applying Stamp

At the end of June, we made new arrangement for the book we have in ashram. We constructed it to be mini library. We used the existing desk to be bookcase and put it at the centre of room. By this arrangement, the bookcase is visible to everyone come to visit us in this room. Even, this arrangement describe as if the books welcome the visitors by saying “Please read us!” We are hoping that the visitors will be attracted to read the books we have.  This bookcase contain around a half the number of our entire set of books. The remaining number of books is still in bookcase in temple room.

The books have been classified in the simple way. There are Vedic Scripture, English Book, Khmer Book, etc. Off course, we are trying to make the number of book become more and more. We were hoping that this small scale library, at one time in the future it would be the large library.  We also welcome all kind of book given as donation from devotees around the world. Hare Krsna

As the season changes from dry season to rainy season, the ‘residents’ of Krishna Garden also changes. Recently, on the month of June, there is something new. The Marigold flowers starting to bloom, and it will be taken for everyday offering on prayer called Mangala Arati(prayer at the morning time) and Gaura Arati(prayer at the evening time). Because we have many Marigold flower, now we are sufficient in flowers. even one time we make also a garland of this flower. The second thing new is that the green bean ( sundey baay in Khmer) also starts giving yields. Next thing is that new sugar cane start growing up. Is it that all something new? No. There is one thing left, the bananas at the corner of our garden also start giving fruits although they aren’t ripe yet. There are seven bananas tree start giving fruit. So, we are hoping, in the next several week, one of them will be ripe and offer it to Lord, and off course we will get the remnant, which is sanctified food, Krishna prasadam.

  1. Visiting monk in Wat Ankusai Pagoda

Also at the end of June, precisely on Saturday, 26th, we are visiting Wat Angkusai Pagoda. There we meet two monks. the first one is Mr. Soem Piseth. Mr. Piseth is the Secretary of Monks in Siem Reap Province, Kingdom of Cambodia. He is very happy to meet us. We then are talking about education in Cambodia, especially education for the monks. In Cambodia, in the general school, there are steps called primary school, high school, and university. The education for monks in Cambodia are held in the special school called Buddhika School. This Buddhika School also have primary school and high school.  Only the differences in on the subject matter. In Buddhika school, there are more subject added like Pallay Language and Sanskrit. There are fourteen subjects thougt in Buddhika School. A boy may become monk at least at the age of ten years. After finishing primary and high school, those who are monks will continue the study to university or college. There are many of them learn computer, law, English etc. For this subject they go to the general university because there are now special universities for monks. Mr.Piseth is telling that he is very happy to be monk. Before he become a monk, he used to be farmer in his homeland. He also told us that he used to work with the land and cow. 1. Four Youth join Sunday Feast

On 27 th June, we held regular Sunday Feast. There were four guests who come. It was the first time for them to join the program. There they met His Holiness Bhakti Raghava Swami Maharaj, and discussed several thing. On the middle of discussion, Bhakti Raghava Swami Maharaja showed them the animation film entitled “Little Krishna”. The movie isn’t in Khmer but In Bahasa Indonesia. But they were so happy. They told that the film is very nice. They also inquired if the film is available in Khmer. Bhakti Raghava Swami Maharaja told that we will find out the Khmer people who can translate the English Edition into Khmer, and then the Khmer edition would be available. Bhakti Raghava Swami added that as soon as the Khmer edition available, the film would be very famous in Kinghdom of Cambodia.  In Cambodia there are story about Preah Ko and Preah Keu, so “Little Krishna” would be very familiar to them.
After watched the”Little Krishna” the prasadam was served. They asked about the food. Then the relax discussion continued about the vegetarian style of life. They also asked about how to make the preparation. That time the preparation was cooked rice and dahl plus sweet. We told them how to make dahl and also the sweet. They were very happy, and told us that the food was very tasty. In this way we are trying to encourage them, or at least to know about the vegetarian life style and it’s importance for health and spirituality.
